About the Client:
The client is a small web development company based in North London, England.
The company's clients are British companies from various business sectors. The company creates custom made website solutions and software for the clients, as well as develops its own websites, web applications and software.
The company has a small team of people who fulfill core development roles and are planning to expand the team within the next 6 to 12 months. Each member is highly valued and their contributions are essential to the business.
About the Projects:
Typical project lasts between 1 to 3 months, but some projects may be shorter or much longer. The new developer may be asked to work on more than one project at a time, so you’ll need to be able to switch between the projects at a short notice.
Most projects are developed on LAMP platform but we also have projects developed in Microsoft .NET. We have our own web CMS built with php and MySql which we occasionally use for clients who require content management capabilities for their website.
Projects can be anything from simple brochure websites, with or without CMS, to complex web based solution such as social networking websites, online shops or web applications.
Typical tasks:
• Setting up websites on designated platforms.
• Working on existing code to add new features or fix bugs.
• Designing and writing code for new systems.
• Performing tests at different development stages - unit, integration, system, system integration.
• Writing project documentation which will include functional requirements, functional
specification, technical specification, programming test scripts for various testing stages.
• Updating logs in bug tracking software.
• Using designated code versioning system.
Required skills:
• Extensive working knowledge and experience with Php - minimum 3 years
• Good knowledge and experience with jQuery library - minimum 1 year
• Good knowledge and experience with JavaScript , AJAX, HTML and CSS
• Experience with MySql database
• Experience with Apache 2.x
• Experience with Linux (CentOS preferably)
• Software Architecture / Engineering / Design
• Understanding of Object Oriented Programming (OOP)
• Experience with design patterns like MVC
Desirable skills for current projects:
• Experience with php frameworks – symfony, Zend, amfphp
• Experience with XML
• Experience with Adobe Flash scripting
• Web interface usability and accessibility
Optional skills:
• Visual Studio .NET (C#, VB)
